For hostile environments, PEEK is a high strength alternative to fluoropolymers. PEEK carries a V-O flammability rating and exhibits very low smoke and toxic gas emission when exposed to flame.
This general purpose grade is unreinforced and offers the highest elongation and toughness of all PEEK grades. The newly available black PEEK is ideal for instrument components where aesthetics are important, as well as for seal components where ductility and inertness are important. They typically contact heat and common process chemicals in use. Prior materials: Nylon, Acetal. The addition of glass fibers significantly reduces the expansion rate and increases the flexural modulus of PEEK.
The addition of carbon fibers enhances the compressive strength and stiffness of PEEK, and dramatically lowers its expansion rate. It offers designers optimum wear resistance and load carrying capability in a PEEK-based product.
This grade provides more thermal conductivity than unreinforced PEEK -- increasing heat dissipation from bearing surfaces improving bearing life and capability. Prior material: Bronze. This series of PEEK materials were developed specifically for Life Sciences applications and are pre-qualified biocompatible materials, helping to save precious time and money.
In addition to the widely used Ketron PEEK grade, several specific grades are available that incorporate glass or carbon fibers, or wear resistant additives that increase the wear life of machined parts. An excellent combination of low friction, low wear, high LPV, low mating part wear and easy machining, make it ideal for aggressive service bearings. Further key characteristics:. Discover more. PEEK material chemically known as polyetheretherketone is manufactured by Ensinger in standard stock shapes for machining. PEEK is a unique semi crystalline, engineering thermoplastic that also offers excellent chemical compatibility. PEEK plastic is often used in hot water or steam environments because it maintains physical properties such as flexural and tensile strength at a high level despite the severe environment. Polyetheretherketone is often viewed as one of the engineering thermoplastics that tends to command a high price, however experienced users have come to realise the added value that PEEK materials bring by offering the possibility of manufactured parts that are lighter, stronger and able to survive longer periods under harsh conditions. PEEK is one of the best heat-resistant materials among high performance plastics. PEEK has a long lifetime in the harshest environments. PEEK has some of the best mechanical strength characteristics available among engineering plastics, including the following:.
