They have no efficient variety, the infantry is completely dispensable Are you really saying HE cavalry is better than bretonnian?
Oh men knights of the realm cost the same than silver helms and are at least ten times better. Silver helms suck. And they only require two turns, while with dragon princes you need 3. Grail guardians are also very good with the new buff. You must be joking. The louen leoncoeur campaign was one of the easier of the first game for sure. But yes the carcasonne campaign is much more difficult in ME than in the first game. Well, it depends.
Bretonnia cavalry is better against large while HE cavalry is better against infantry. The good thing about Grail Knights is the immune vigor though. I mean, Bretonnia has better cavalry for sure but HE cavalry is better against infantry and strong. Brettonia is a faction entirely focused on elite cavalry with fodder infantry. Their infantry isn't supposed to be good. In recent Tourney High Elves were counterpicked by Brettonia. In finals. Grail Knights are miles ahead of Dragon Princes in direct cavalry combat.
So yes, while there are some problems in Bret roster, it's definitely not as bad as it seems to many. Discussions Activity Best Of Sign In. I hope this is the right section to post this Why is it so weak? Bretonnia is not able to even cope with Humans from Mariengburg. And not only that but its Economy sucks too I am limited to 10 Peasant Economy and Marienburg attacks with 2 stacks Yet this is a unit vs Unit issue.
Bretonnian infantry is weak vs other humans and very weak versus others it seems. Early cavalry has trouble taking out Crosbowmen and the such even. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I disband all infantry units and make stacks of Cavalry units instead? I am playing Warhammer 1 Thanks. Tagged: Bretonnia. January Well, I dont know if it is unbalanced or wrongly rated as "Normal" This Campaign is a hard one. On to the 4rth restart of the campaign eventually I will learn the pattern :P.
Lickems Registered Users Posts: 8. January edited January Unfortunately, your assessments are correct. Bretonnia is awful atm both in MP and in campaign. Simply, their infantry nearly all underperform, and their cavalry only become decent in the later stages. However, the campaigns are do-able. They at least get good diplomacy Bretonnia doesn't suck they just take a lot of patience to play.
You will rely on making alliances with your fellow Bretonnian's while researching the tech tree to unlock all the confederations with each state. You will be spending a lot of time keeping your Fellow Bretonnian's alive since it will take awhile for you to be strong enough to defeat the Red Duke and his Vampire faction, since they are able toe replace troops faster than your, military has to keep him in check if he expands too much your going to get overwhelmed. Only confederate with the states that share your borders when you economy is stable enough to absorb the territory.
The AI tends to build up settlements in annoying ways, so you will end up replacing a lot of what they have built. Most of your expansion will come from confederations, since your main army will be composed of Cavalry and is more or less useless in a siege. With the chivalry mechanic you can practically win the campaign by only confederating all of Brettonia and defending if from a mix of Greenskin's, Vampires, Wood Elves, Norsca and Chaos.
Since your armies will still be mostly cavalry it takes a lot of effort to capture walled cities. Personally I have playing Brettonia, if you don't like using large amounts of Calvary in your armies give the faction a miss until you have played the game more.
Dr Zoidberg "We fight over matters of honour, and whether or not abbreviations count in scrabble. Because you should be using Grail Knights. Thank you appreciate the Tips and advice. So I was looking forward to play it now here on a computer a Total War game long time fan too, the best iteration of Warhammer Fantasy on the computer in my opinion.
This is why I was somewhat disappointed I know I used an aggressive word here "suck" but that is because Devs like it when players use it The right work is of course that Bretonnia is weak and under performs. I am tempted to mod the heck out of it to rebalance it according to my view and while I have not looked maybe there are mods for it already , yet I am hoping it will be addressed.
In the 4th Campaign I did much better, I am using all of the precious Knights I started with and disbanded all of the peasant and spear units.
Instead made Archers and men at arms with swords, they fare a bit better and work well with equal amounts of archers in support. Tactics in this case were Anvil and Hammer Hellenic Alexandrian era hold em shoot em and hammer them with Cavalry on the flanks. Very challenging starting situation I managed to take Marienburg and win that Greenskin battle and raze the camp but now had to rush back because of an invasion form the sea.
And the other settlement of Marienburg is building up armies fast of course I know that the AI always Cheats they do not feel attrition or low cash. Overall Compared to Empire, I think the biggest problem with Bretonnia is the Paesant Economy and the limitations that it causes to troop number that early in the game.
I hope this is something I can mod to make it higher, I think the starting point should be 20 not Then of course the Subpar Units..
I did also initiate Diplomacy with all Bretonnian Lords and Ladies. And that is that for now I will continue and see how it all plays.
I am new to the game and compared to the Historical titles it has some new features and mechanics that need learning. In either case I will definitely get WH 2 as well, I am both a History and Fantasy fan so I like all the titles Thanks again for your comments and tips, may the Lady of the lake shine upon thine paths!
February Yes agreed, of course compared to others. So yes, even if new to Warhammer, I am not new to Total war and I noticed right away how weak many of the units are. Which I suppose is at attempt here to offer another level for challenge or experience to the player. But for me there is also the aspect of immersion. I usually play mainly the factions which offer me a level of immersion and I dont get that from the empire, which means, "just playing empire", is not a satisfactory solution.
So ya hope it will be addressed.. Altariel Registered Users Posts: Davielebb Registered Users Posts: Brettonia campaign is garbage. Takes forever to get foot squires, which are decent but nowhere near good enough to go doomstacking with like with every other factions highest tier infantry. Polearms are ok, but only in a defensive role in holding for constant missile fire and cav rear charges. That said the cav is pretty good but still.
Takes ages to get and even then the AI tends to have a lot of anti large infantry in their armies which makes cav heavy armies problematic to use. Altariel said:. Tennisgolfboll Registered Users Posts: 8, Bretonnia was one of my fav factions in the tt. CA has implemented them poorly. The economy is ok. Im fine with it. Their buffs for their knights of the realm, the very essence of bretonnia, is not.
In the tt an army with alot of them was incredible.
Bretonnian units one by one, my take on them
But there was true dignity in how men comported themselves in battle. And there was always honor to be found in standing for a just cause and defending the defenseless. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong; that is your oath. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony! Bretonnia is one of the main factions in Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
Why does Bretonnia suck so much?

But what is the steed without his knight? Knight and steed, noble and peasant; on such relationship is Bretonnia built. Bretonnia is a major race introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It was added as part of the Bretonnia update free content.
